We are grateful to the Native Village of Gambell, the City of Gambell, and Sivuqaq Incorporated for their support of the installation and operation of the Gambell Sea Ice Radar. While it is installed we hope that the radar may also prove to be a useful too to the residents of Gambell. The image may show gaps in the ice for travel, and the animation can give an idea on the currents in the area.
The Gambell Sea Ice Radar is supported as part of the Integrated System for Operations in Polar Sea (ISOPS) through a collaborative project between UAF and the U.S. Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (US Department of the Army BAA W912HZ-20-BAA-01).
Any feedback on how we can make the radar a more useful tool for Gambell residents can be addressed to:
Andy Mahoney, Samuel George, or Josh Jones at UAF.
